About
Inspired by Somalia's Maritime Legacy.
OPONE is a Somali blue economy enterprise inspired by the historic Port of Opone and committed to advancing fisheries, markets, coastal livelihoods, and sustainable ocean development.
Our story
A Legacy of Trade. A Future of Opportunity.
The name OPONE is inspired by the ancient Port of Opone, located on the Hafun Peninsula in present-day Somalia.
More than two thousand years ago, Opone was one of the Horn of Africa’s most important maritime trading centers. Merchants from Africa, Arabia, Persia, India, and the Mediterranean exchanged goods, knowledge, and opportunities through the Indian Ocean trade network.
Known for the trade of spices, incense, ivory, tortoiseshell, and other valuable products, Opone helped connect Somalia to the wider world.
Today, OPONE carries forward that spirit by supporting fisheries development, strengthening markets, promoting investment, and contributing to the growth of Somalia’s blue economy.
Our vision
To see Somalia emerge as a leading blue economy nation where oceans create sustainable prosperity, resilient livelihoods, thriving enterprises, and inclusive economic growth.
Our Mission
To connect people, markets, knowledge, and opportunities that strengthen fisheries, support coastal communities, promote ocean stewardship, and accelerate sustainable blue economy development.
